Can we discuss assets and inheritance with our family while we are still alive?

Discussing assets openly while you are healthy prevents misunderstandings and quarrels when the time comes. Many consider it taboo or impolite, when in fact it is a sign of responsibility. Choose a calm setting, explain your wishes, and listen to your family members' concerns. Explain that the faraid division is already fixed by Islamic law so that no one feels treated unfairly. If there are special needs, such as a trust for a child with special needs, plan early with advice from the religious affairs office or Amanah Raya. Such discussions, held with wisdom, bring a family closer rather than tearing it apart. Avoid turning it into a scramble while a family member is ill. See managing an estate.
