🌍 Children, inheritance & global · #96

My ex-husband says I am not fit to have custody of our children because I work. Is that true?

Working does not by itself cancel a mother's right of custody (hadhanah). What is assessed is whether the child is well cared for, safe and properly brought up, not whether the mother has a job. Many working mothers provide excellent care with the help of a nursery, a childminder or family. Set out your arrangements clearly: who looks after the child while you work, the daily schedule, school or nursery, and your quality time together. Keep records such as your child's health reports and school progress. Avoid arguing about this in front of the child. If the case goes to court, the child's welfare is the main yardstick, and the judge will weigh the evidence of both sides. Read also hadhanah (custody).
