What guidance does the Qur'an give on household spending?
Three verses set the same two boundaries.
Al-Furqan 25:67 praises those who, when they spend, are neither extravagant nor miserly but hold a middle course between the two. Al-Isra' 17:29 pictures it: do not keep your hand chained to your neck, nor stretch it out to its utmost, lest you end up blamed and destitute. Al-A‘raf 7:31 closes it: eat and drink, but do not be extravagant, for Allah does not love the extravagant. Both extremes are named as blameworthy — miserliness and waste — and a home that fights about money is usually stuck at one of those two ends.
