🧭 Region & Middle East · #133

Our child wants to marry a Muslim from a country with a very different culture. How should we as parents respond?

Assess the suitor's religion and character first; cultural differences can be managed if the foundation is good. Your worries about language, food, roles in the household or where they will live later are reasonable. Invite the suitor, and if possible their family, to get acquainted. Ask practical questions in a friendly way: which country they will settle in, how they see the roles of husband and wife, and how the children will be raised. Encourage your child to ask the same questions honestly. Avoid refusing simply because of the country of origin. A blessing given with open eyes strengthens your child more. See criteria for choosing a spouse.
