🧒 Raising children (tarbiyah) · #171
My child noticed that the sibling in the other home got more duit raya (festive money) and gifts. What should I say?
First listen to your child's feelings without denying them, then explain that love is not measured by the amount of money. Jealousy is normal at a young age, so do not snap at him or tell him to be grateful straight away. Say something honest, for example: ‘I understand you feel hurt; let's think about it together.’ Separately and tactfully, remind the father that fairness in giving among children is required by the religion so that no one is hurt. At the same time, teach your child to value what he has and not to judge himself by possessions. Avoid making your child the carrier of news between the two homes. See children in polygyny.
