🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #25
Should husbands and wives say thank you to each other for ordinary things?
Yes, because thanking people is part of being grateful to Allah.
The Prophet ﷺ said that whoever does not thank people is not grateful to Allah (Sunan Abu Dawud 4811). In married life, things done every day — cooking, earning a living, taking the children to school, washing the clothes — are easily dismissed as "that is simply their job". Over time a spouse can feel unappreciated even without any quarrel. A short, sincere thank you, a small compliment or a brief message at midday builds the feeling of being valued. It does not reduce anyone's duties; it simply reminds us that those duties are carried out by a human being who also gets tired. See Emotional communication.
