Q&A › Preparation & choosing a spouse

🧭 Preparation & choosing a spouse · #135

I am taking medication for depression. Should I stop it before marrying or planning a pregnancy?

Do not stop on your own; discuss it with the doctor treating you before making any change. Stopping medication suddenly can bring back symptoms or cause unwanted side effects. Your doctor can assess whether treatment needs adjusting or should continue while you plan a pregnancy. Taking medication is not a sign of weak faith; seeking treatment is part of making an effort. As for your future spouse, it is good for them to know about your condition in a way you feel comfortable with, so they can support you on hard days. Bring them to an appointment if you are ready. Also plan support after marriage, including whom to contact when your condition dips. See mental health.
