🧭 Region & Middle East · #109

My husband wants our family to move to his home country, but I want to stay in Malaysia. How do we decide?

A decision this big should be made together through mutual consultation, not by pressure from one side. Allah praises the believers whose “affairs are decided by mutual consultation among them” (Surah asy-Syura 42:38). In fiqh terms, a wife ordinarily follows her husband to a suitable and safe home, but a happy household is not built on rulings alone. List each of your reasons honestly: work, frail parents, the children's education and financial stability. Recall what was agreed before you married, because such promises deserve to be honoured. Consider a middle way, such as a trial period with a review date. If you are worried about your rights and your children's rights in another country, get advice from the religious affairs office and a lawyer before moving. See rights of husband and wife.
