🧭 Region & Middle East · #95

We work in Malaysia, and our young child lives with their grandmother in Indonesia. How do we remain their parents?

Be present in their life every day even from afar, and plan so that this separation does not drag on with no end date. A young child bonds with the person who cares for them every day, so it is natural for them to be close to their grandmother. Your role is to stay familiar: a video call at the same time every day, your voice reciting the bedtime dua, and visits as often as you can manage. Appreciate the grandmother and help with the costs, but also discuss upbringing so that you are on the same page with her. Set a target date for your child to live with you, and prepare the transition gradually. Make sure your child's documents, including their birth registration, are complete and valid. See children.
