My husband has been transferred to Brunei for several years. How do we prepare the family to move?

Involve the whole family in the preparations, so that the move feels like an adventure together, not a decision imposed on them. Tell the children about the new place, the schools and the interesting things there. Check the residence permit requirements for the wife and children, schooling and health coverage with the employer and the Brunei authorities before leaving. Respect local laws and customs, including those that differ from what is usual in Malaysia. Get to know other Malaysian families there who can share their experience. Also plan a schedule for visits home so that parents in Malaysia do not feel left behind. See Muslim families in Brunei.
