Q&A › Preparation & choosing a spouse

🧭 Preparation & choosing a spouse · #152

To prepare for marriage, which part of the Prophet's ﷺ biography (sirah) is most useful to study?

Start with his family life, because that is where the example closest to your own future life lies. Allah says: “Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent example” (Surah al-Ahzab 33:21). Notice how he joked with his wives, helped with housework, calmed a jealous wife, and settled disagreements without harshness. Learn too the role of Khadijah r.a. as his support in hard times. Choose one reliable sirah book and read one chapter a week while making short notes. After each chapter, ask yourself: what is one thing I can put into practice? Sirah that is taken to heart makes the sunnah a way of life, not just a story. See rights of husband and wife.
