A Malaysian marries a Singaporean citizen. Does the marriage give a right to live in Singapore?
Not automatically. A foreign spouse of a Singaporean citizen needs a long-term pass applied for separately, and the marriage must also be registered in Malaysia.
A contract in Singapore usually requires at least one party to be resident or to meet the conditions of the Registrar of Muslim Marriages (ROMM), and a foreigner needs certified marital-status documents from their home country. A Malaysian husband who is already married needs permission from the Syariah Court of his state in Malaysia, and hiding an existing wife can be an offence in both countries. After marrying, register the marriage with the state religious office or the Malaysian High Commission in Singapore within the set period. Allah tells us to record important matters (al-Baqarah 2:282). Check current immigration requirements before planning where to live. See Singapore.
