🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #9
What is the ruling on harbouring suspicion and spying on one's spouse?
Al-Hujurat 49:12 forbids both in a single verse: avoid much suspicion, for some suspicion is sin; and do not spy on one another; and do not backbite — would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother?
This verse does not mean one must ignore clear evidence. It means that groundless doubt does not qualify as an accusation, and gathering information by prying is not the Islamic way of resolving suspicion. The way taught is to ask directly and, if it has become a dispute, to take it to a mediator. See Digital life & the family.
