Q&A › Preparation & choosing a spouse

🧭 Preparation & choosing a spouse · #156

My akad nikah is only a few weeks away. How do I prepare spiritually at the last moment?

Slow down for a moment; amid the busy wedding preparations, set aside time every day to prepare your heart. Renew your repentance and seek forgiveness (istighfar), because you want to enter a new phase with a clean soul. Keep praying early in the prayer time even when wedding matters demand attention. Make plenty of dua for your marriage, including the prayer taught by the Quran: “Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and our offspring a comfort to our eyes” (Surah al-Furqan 25:74). Ask forgiveness from your parents and siblings, and thank them for all they have done. Avoid quarrelling over small wedding details, because they are worth nothing compared with the blessing of that day. On the night before the akad, sleep early. See the right intention for marriage.
