⚖️ Polygyny: rulings & justice · #140

My lawyer suggested I dress up the reasons in my polygyny application so it is easier to approve. Is that right?

A lawyer can help set out the facts clearly, but must never add to them or twist them. Setting out your real reasons in orderly language is proper. But exaggerating your wife's shortcomings, hiding commitments or inventing needs that do not exist is deceiving the court and wronging your wife. Allah says: “stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even as against yourselves” (Surah an-Nisa' 4:135). Ask your lawyer to show you every statement before you sign it. If your real reasons are not strong enough, accept that as the answer. See what “just or necessary” means.
