🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #37
May one post photos of one's wife or spouse on social media?
Yes, on two main conditions: modesty (aurat) is preserved and the spouse agrees; without their permission it violates their rights and dignity.
Photos of a woman whose aurat is not covered, viewed by the public, fall under the prohibition on displaying adornment (an-Nur 24:31). Beyond aurat there is privacy: the location of the home, the children's school, photos taken in the bedroom or during illness can be misused, including by scammers and criminals. Some spouses, especially in polygamous families, also do not want their lives displayed to a co-wife or other relatives. Respect a request not to be posted, and delete a photo if your spouse asks. Showing off affection excessively does not necessarily reflect a happy marriage either. See Digital life & the family.
