🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #59
Is it wrong to show off luxuries and gifts from one's spouse on social media?
Sharing one's joy modestly is not wrong, but showing off to be praised or to make others feel lacking falls under the blameworthy trait of boastfulness.
Allah does not love the arrogant and boastful (Luqman 31:18), and He warns us not to exult in His favours to the point of boasting (al-Hadid 57:23). The story of Qarun, who paraded his wealth before his people, stands as a warning in the Quran (al-Qasas 28:76–79). In a polygamous family, parading gifts or holidays can also hurt the other wife and her children. Exposing valuables and locations also invites crime and fraud. Before posting, ask yourself: who am I sharing this for, and what will it do to those who read it? See Digital life & the family.
