How do we bring alive the sunnah of giving food or gifts to neighbours?

Giving food and gifts to neighbours is a sunnah that strengthens affection and makes your home a mercy to those around it. Start with small things, such as passing some of your cooking to the neighbour next door. Involve your children in delivering the gifts so they learn the joy of giving. Look out for neighbours who are elderly, ill or alone. It need not be expensive; sincerity and care are worth more than the price. Neighbours who are honoured become friends in hard times and good. Make giving part of the family's habits, not only when there is an occasion. See everyday adab.
