🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #58
I feel envious seeing my co-wife get my husband's attention. How can I control this feeling?
The feeling is human and is not a sin as long as it is not acted on with hurtful words or deeds; what is asked is to manage it, not deny it.
Allah forbids coveting what He has given others in greater measure and tells us to ask Him of His bounty (an-Nisa' 4:32). The Prophet ﷺ said: do not envy one another, do not hate one another, and be servants of Allah as brothers (Sahih al-Bukhari 6065). Practical steps: identify what you actually feel is lacking — time, attention or maintenance — and claim that right clearly from your husband, not from your co-wife. Cut down on watching your co-wife's social media. Strengthen your own life: friends, worship, work, health. If injustice really is happening, there are channels at the Syariah Court. If the feeling is affecting your sleep and health, seek counselling. See Relations between co-wives.
