My periods are irregular. How is my iddah after talaq calculated?
The waiting period (iddah) of a woman who still menstruates is counted as three periods of purity, even if her cycle is long or irregular. This means each woman's iddah can differ. For some it ends within a few months, and for others it takes longer. Start by recording every period and every interval of purity in a diary or app from the day the talaq was pronounced. If you are unsure whether bleeding is menstruation or irregular bleeding (istihadah), consult a knowledgeable ustazah or religious officer. For medical situations such as a cycle that has stopped for a long time, talk to a doctor and the state religious affairs office, because the ruling depends on the details.
