⚖️ Polygyny: rulings & justice · #66
May a husband require his wives to share a car, a helper or other facilities?
Yes, if agreed and fair, but each wife is entitled to her own basic needs according to his means; sharing must not leave one wife always going without.
Maintenance is assessed by the husband's means and the wife's needs (at-Talaq 65:7), and Allah forbids inclining to one wife (an-Nisa' 4:129). Reasonable examples of sharing: one car used on a clear schedule if the homes are close, or a part-time helper who alternates. Problems arise when the facility always stays at one wife's home, or the other must ask her co-wife's permission. It is better for each household to have its own basic needs such as transport for taking the children to school. If he cannot yet afford it, discuss it openly with all the wives and set written rules. See Finances across two homes.
