Q&A › Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk

🚪 Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk · #103

We have divorced and reconciled twice. How do we protect our marriage so it never reaches a third talaq?

Treat the remaining talaq as a great trust, and build a system that stops quarrels from ever reaching the words of talaq. Identify the pattern of the two past divorces: when they happened, what was being discussed, and who triggered them. The husband must promise not to mention the word divorce when angry, and to stop and step out for a while when anger peaks. The Prophet ﷺ said: “When one of you is angry while standing, let him sit down” (Sunan Abu Dawud 4782). Also agree on a go-between you both respect, to be consulted before things get bad. Regular counselling is not a sign of weakness; it is protection for a marriage that has already been tested. Read also iddah and rujuk.
