🚪 Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk · #100
We were intimate during the iddah of a raj'i talaq without any words of rujuk. Does that count as rujuk?
In the Syafi'i school, rujuk is only valid with spoken words; intimacy without words does not count as rujuk. A wife in the waiting period (iddah) of a revocable (raj'i) talaq may not be touched until the husband pronounces rujuk. So repent together for what happened, without blaming each other. If you both truly want to reunite, the husband can pronounce rujuk clearly as long as the iddah has not ended, ideally in front of witnesses. Register the rujuk at the district Islamic religious affairs office afterwards. This incident may affect the calculation of the iddah, so explain the actual circumstances to a religious officer or the state mufti's office to get an accurate answer. Refer to the iddah and rujuk page.
