My ex-husband is keeping our child's birth certificate and passport. How do I get them?
Ask in writing first; if he refuses, the court can order the documents to be handed over or dealt with according to the child's needs. A child's documents are needed for school, medical treatment and official matters, so withholding them only makes things hard for the child. Write a short message, for example: ‘I need our child's birth certificate for school registration before the end of the month.’ Keep proof of that request. For the birth certificate, you can also ask the National Registration Department (JPN) about an extract or certified copy. A passport involves additional rules, so ask the Immigration Department. If you are worried the child will be taken abroad without permission, tell a syarie lawyer so that appropriate steps can be taken. Read the explanation in hadhanah (custody).
