Q&A › Existing wife & prospective wife

🤝 Existing wife & prospective wife · #170

My relationship with my husband's other wife is distant. How can our children stay in touch?

Children have the right to know their siblings even if the mothers are not close, and the distance between adults' hearts should not cut the bond between them. Separate your feelings about that woman from the children's right to keep family ties. Leave the arranging of meetings to your husband so you do not have to deal with her directly if that is hard for you. Encourage the children to contact each other regularly through video calls or short messages. Allah says: “And reverence Allah, through whom you ask of one another, and (be mindful of) the ties of kinship” (Surah an-Nisa' 4:1). Never use the children as a tool to convey anger.
