The bride's period begins on the day of the marriage contract. Is the contract still valid?
Yes, the marriage contract is valid even if the bride is menstruating; menstruation is not among the conditions for a valid marriage.
The pillars of marriage are the couple, the guardian, two witnesses and the offer and acceptance, and no text requires a woman to be free of menstruation at the contract. What is forbidden during menstruation is intercourse (al-Baqarah 2:222), so the couple must wait until the bleeding stops and the wife takes the obligatory bath before being intimate. Intimacy without intercourse is permitted within its limits. If there is a custom of the bride reciting prayers or Quran, a menstruating woman may supplicate and remember Allah. There is no need to change the date or feel shy to say so; an understanding officiant and family will not question it. See the pillars of marriage and Fiqh of menstruation.
