Q&A › Polygyny: rulings & justice

⚖️ Polygyny: rulings & justice · #109

I cannot control the feelings of my heart towards my wives. What justice is actually required?

The obligatory justice is in outward matters you can control — time, maintenance, housing and treatment — not the leanings of the heart that are beyond your power. Allah says: “And you will never be able to be just between your wives, however much you desire it; so do not incline wholly (to the one you love) and leave the other as if suspended” (Surah an-Nisa' 4:129). So do not condemn yourself for what you feel, but be just in your actions, and make sure no wife is neglected. If you are unsure about the correct division, refer to the religious affairs office. See fiqh of polygyny.
