Q&A › Character & conduct between spouses

🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #381

Our extended family WhatsApp group often becomes a place for arguing and backbiting. How do we keep good manners?

A family group should strengthen family ties, not become a battleground for quarrels and backbiting that damage them. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him speak good or remain silent” (Sahih al-Bukhari 6018), and this applies to typing fingers too. Avoid spreading stories about people, arguing at length about sensitive issues, or replying when angry. If something needs resolving, do it privately, not in front of everyone. You are not obliged to reply to every message; sometimes silence saves a relationship. Use the group to spread good: congratulating, praying for one another, and connecting those far away.
