🚪 Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk · #137

Should I announce my divorce on social media?

There is no need; divorce is a private matter, and it is enough to tell the people who truly need to know. Social media posts easily invite comments, speculation and public quarrels that add to the hurt. They also stay around for a long time and may be read by your children one day. If your change of status needs explaining, one short sentence with no details is enough. Avoid sarcastic posts about your ex-spouse, even if you feel wronged. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him speak good or remain silent” (Sahih al-Bukhari 6018). Consider also taking a break from social media for a while. Refer to the digital family page.
