🧭 Preparation & choosing a spouse · #139
I am about to marry, but I am still occasionally in touch with an ex. Should I cut it off completely?
Yes, cut it off clearly before the akad, because an old relationship left open easily becomes a doorway to problems. Even if the conversations feel ordinary, they keep an emotional space that should be reserved for your future spouse. Send one short and dignified message, for example: ‘I am getting married. I think it is better we are no longer in touch. I wish you well.’ Then delete the number, unfollow their accounts, and put away keepsakes such as photos or gifts. Do not wait for their agreement. If work matters force you to be in contact, limit it to that work only and keep it open to your spouse. Honesty from the start builds a trust that is hard to buy later. See limits of interaction.
