We are both Malaysian students abroad and want to marry there. What needs to be arranged so that it is valid and registered?

Start from Malaysia, not from the country where you are studying: get the blessing and involvement of the wali, then ask the state Islamic religious affairs office about the procedure. The bride's wali, usually her father, must be involved, either by attending himself or by properly appointing an eligible person to act for him. Also ask the Malaysian embassy or consulate there about a marriage that can be recognised and registered in Malaysia. Avoid anyone offering a quick marriage without a wali or without documents; it may not be valid and can cause hardship for the wife and children later. Keep all original documents, and register the marriage in Malaysia as soon as possible. See marrying abroad.
