🕊️ Conflict & resolution · #237

My spouse is addicted and has not changed for a long time. Should I keep holding on?

There is no single answer; this decision depends on safety, your spouse's effort, and the limits of what you can bear. Holding on while your spouse is truly working to recover is different from holding on in a situation that is destroying you and your children. Remember Allah's words: “Allah does not burden a soul beyond what it can bear” (Surah al-Baqarah 2:286). Get a counsellor's view, and for binding decisions about rights and the marriage, refer to the religious office or the Syariah Court. Make the safety and well-being of yourself and your children the priority. A decision this big does not need to be made in a hurry or alone. See counselling.
