In Oman, may a husband house his wives in the same home?
Not without the wife's consent. Oman's Personal Status Law (Royal Decree 32/97) Article 59 forbids a husband to house a wife with her co-wife in the same home without her consent.
Oman does not require court permission or notice to the wife for polygamy, but sets the limit of four wives (Article 35(2)) and the duty of fairness (Article 37(6)), requires marriages to be officially documented (Article 6) and talak to be registered within 30 days. The principle of separate homes matches the Shafi'i view that a wife need not live with her co-wife without consent, based on the duty to provide housing (at-Talaq 65:6). Malaysians in Oman still need the Malaysian Syariah Court's permission to take another wife. See The Gulf & Iran.
