I am a convert (mualaf) living with my non-Muslim family. How do I keep my food halal?

Keeping food halal in a multi-faith home needs a little arranging, not arguments. Discuss kindly how to set aside separate space, utensils or shelves for your food and cooking if possible. Cook for yourself when in doubt, and tell your family politely that you only eat halal, not because you look down on their cooking. Learn to recognise ingredients to avoid, such as pork and alcohol. If it is hard to keep things fully separate, give priority to what you are sure is halal and consult a religious officer about situations of necessity. A gentle attitude makes it easier for your family to accept your needs. See interfaith.
