Q&A › Preparation & choosing a spouse

🧭 Preparation & choosing a spouse · #48

I want to marry but fear the responsibility and failing. Is that normal?

Yes, that fear is normal and a sign that you are serious; overcome it with knowledge, planning and trust in Allah (tawakal), not by putting it off indefinitely.
Identify the source of the fear: finances, experience of divorce in the family, or lack of self-confidence. Each has a solution — a realistic budget, pre-marriage courses and counselling, and talking with experienced couples. Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity (al-Baqarah 2:286), and Allah promises sufficiency to those who marry to protect their chastity (an-Nur 24:32). Perfection is not required; what is needed is the willingness to learn and strive together. If the anxiety is very troubling, seek a counselling session.
