Q&A › Existing wife & prospective wife

🤝 Existing wife & prospective wife · #160

My heart is full of resentment towards those who hurt me as a second wife. How do I let it go?

Forgiving does not mean considering the wrong to be right; it means freeing your heart from a burden that poisons your own life. Resentment that is held on to harms you more than the people you hate. Allah says: “and let them forgive and overlook. Do you not love that Allah should forgive you?” (Surah an-Nur 24:22). This does not stop you from claiming your rights or keeping healthy boundaries. Start by praying for peace for yourself, then slowly let go of the hope of getting even. If the wound is too deep, a counsellor can help you process it. Forgiveness is a gift you give yourself before you give it to others. See mental health.
