Q&A › Existing wife & prospective wife

🤝 Existing wife & prospective wife · #145

My husband gives more nights to his first wife than to me. Is this allowed?

The division of nights between wives must be fair; giving more to one without a reason permitted by Islamic law is an injustice. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever has two wives and inclines towards one of them, he will come on the Day of Resurrection with one side of his body leaning” (Sunan Abu Dawud 2133). The exception is the extra nights that are sunnah for a new bride at the start of the marriage. Discuss the rota (turn of nights) with your husband calmly and clearly, and ask for it to be fixed so that it is fair. If the injustice continues, officers at the religious affairs office or the Syariah Court can help assess your rights. See rotation.
