Q&A › Character & conduct between spouses

🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #296

I feel jealous every time my spouse praises someone else's looks or abilities. What should I do?

Feeling stung is normal, but do not let it lead you to forbid your spouse from mentioning good things about others. Praising someone's abilities in general is not the same as comparing you with that person. Notice whether the praise is just ordinary, or really does make you feel put down. If it hurts, say so honestly: ‘When praise like that is said in front of me, I feel as if I fall short.’ A caring spouse will be more careful. At the same time, train your heart not to read every compliment as rivalry. Fill your heart with contentment, not with comparing yourself. See communication & emotions.
