🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #51
What are the limits on dealings with colleagues of the opposite sex for a married person?
Working together professionally is permitted; what must be guarded against is being alone together, warm personal conversations and meeting outside work matters.
The Prophet ﷺ forbade a man to be alone with a non-mahram woman (Sahih al-Bukhari 5233), and Allah commands men and women to lower their gaze (an-Nur 24:30–31) and forbids women to soften their speech in a way that arouses desire in one whose heart is diseased (al-Ahzab 33:32). Practical guidance: meet in open or glass-walled rooms; keep WhatsApp conversations about work; avoid eating alone together or sharing a car alone where it can be avoided; and do not share marital problems with colleagues of the opposite sex. Tell your spouse openly about colleagues you deal with often. This openness protects you and reassures your spouse. See Modesty & boundaries.
