🌍 Children, inheritance & global · #143

I am a widow who wants to remarry. Will I lose my share of my late husband's estate?

No; your share of the estate was fixed on the day your husband died, and a new marriage does not take it back. Once the estate is divided, that share is fully yours. Your late husband's family has no right to claim it back just because you remarry. But there are other matters that deserve careful handling. The children's shares remain theirs. If you manage them on their behalf, keep them separate and on record; do not mix them with the expenses of your new home. Also discuss the children's relationship with their late father's family. All of this is easier if you are upfront with your husband-to-be from the start. See remarrying.
