Q&A › Preparation & choosing a spouse

🧭 Preparation & choosing a spouse · #63

My future wife does not yet fully cover her aurat. Should I go ahead in the hope she will change?

Judge her faith and character as a whole, not one matter alone; but do not marry merely on the condition or hope of "changing" a spouse after the wedding.
The Prophet ﷺ told us to give priority to a spouse with faith (Sahih al-Bukhari 5090). Covering the aurat is an obligation (an-Nur 24:31), and many women grow in religious commitment within a loving marriage. Helpful questions: does she keep her prayers and respect the religion; does she herself wish to change; and how will you guide with wisdom rather than force? Discuss it openly before the contract so expectations are clear. If you cannot accept her as she is now and she has no wish to change, it is fairer not to proceed. See Modesty & boundaries.
