🌍 Children, inheritance & global · #53

The deceased left a mother, a wife and children. What is the mother's share?

The deceased's mother receives one sixth (1/6) when the deceased leaves children, according to the Quran.
Allah says: for each of the parents a sixth of what is left if the deceased has children (an-Nisa' 4:11). In this example, the wife receives one eighth because there are children (4:12), the mother one sixth, the father (if alive) one sixth, and the remainder goes to the children, a son receiving twice a daughter's share. The Prophet ﷺ said: give the fixed shares to those entitled, and what remains to the nearest male relative (Sahih al-Bukhari 6732). Many families forget that the deceased's mother is an heir; make sure she is listed in the estate application. The exact calculation must be confirmed by the court or the estate office. See Faraid.
