Q&A › Raising children (tarbiyah)

🧒 Raising children (tarbiyah) · #103

My middle child feels he gets less attention than his older brother and younger sibling. What should I do?

Fairness among children does not mean being exactly equal in everything, but making sure each child feels seen and cared for. The Prophet ﷺ commanded: “Be conscious of Allah and act justly among your children” (Sahih al-Bukhari 2587). Set aside special time for the middle child on his own, even briefly, so that he knows he is special. Notice his contributions and achievements, which may be overlooked because he does not demand attention. Avoid making him the go-between or the ‘easy child’ who always gives way. Ask openly about his feelings. Every child needs to feel he is not just ‘one of them’. See educating the family.
