In Malaysia, where do I go to administer the deceased's estate?

The route depends on the type and value of the estate. Small estates (with land, valued below the current limit) are handled by the Estate Distribution Unit, JKPTG, under the Small Estates (Distribution) Act 1955. Low-value estates of movable property only can go through Amanah Raya Berhad. High-value estates or those involving a formal will are administered through the Civil High Court (probate or letters of administration). For Muslims, the Faraid Certificate from the Syariah Court determines who the heirs are and their respective shares. In polygyny, all wives must be listed with their marriage certificates. Check the latest value limits on the JKPTG or Amanah Raya website. See faraid.
