The mosque near our home abroad follows a different school of law. Can our family pray in congregation there?
Yes; praying behind an imam of another school of law is valid according to the view of the majority of scholars. Differences such as the qunut in Subuh, how the hands are placed or the start of Asar time are recognised matters of scholarly difference. Follow the imam in the movements of the prayer and do not get ahead of him. If the imam does not recite the qunut, your prayer is still valid; ask your teacher about details such as the prostration of forgetfulness (sujud sahwi). The mosque is the best place for children to grow up in a Muslim community, so do not let small differences keep your family away from it. If a practice is truly doubtful, consult a knowledgeable person you trust. See school.
