Until when must a father pay child maintenance under a court order?
Under Act 303 s.79, a child maintenance order usually ends when the child turns 18. The court may, on the application of the child or another person, extend the order for a reasonable period so the child can pursue further education or training. The order does not end at 18 for a daughter who has not married, or a child unable to support themselves because of a mental or physical disability, unless the order itself states a shorter period or has been rescinded. The father's duty to maintain children is also stated in s.72. If the child will continue studying, apply for an extension before the order ends. See Child maintenance.
