Q&A › Preparation & choosing a spouse

🧭 Preparation & choosing a spouse · #31

My spouse is slow in coming. What should I do?

Keep praying and making an effort in permitted ways, while thinking well of Allah's decree.
One's spouse is decreed, but effort is commanded: let family and trusted friends know, join good activities and communities, use an intermediary, and improve yourself. Make plenty of supplication — among those often practised is the supplication of the Prophet Musa a.s. "Rabbi inni lima anzalta ilayya min khairin faqir" (al-Qasas 28:24), which he made before he was brought to his spouse. Avoid superstitious practices such as "bathing to remove bad luck", as they contradict sound belief. Reassess if your criteria are too strict on secondary matters. Allah does not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves (ar-Ra'd 13:11).
