🏛️ Polygyny: the law · #12

How much does it cost to apply for polygyny?

The court fee for filing an application is usually small, but the total cost depends on whether you appoint a Syarie lawyer. Filing and document fees are set in the state court fees rules, so check at the Syariah Court counter. If you appoint a Syarie lawyer, legal fees are separate and vary with the complexity of the case, for example if the wife objects. Also factor in the cost of the contract, the mahr, the walimah and, most importantly, ongoing maintenance (nafkah) for two households. The court will assess your financial means, so draw up a realistic budget first using the calculator and two-household finances.
