Q&A › Character & conduct between spouses

🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #198

I realise I criticise my spouse almost every day. How do I stop?

Constant criticism wears away love faster than big problems that rarely happen. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him speak good or remain silent” (Sahih al-Bukhari 6018). Try this rule for a week: before correcting, ask yourself whether it is really necessary or just a complaint. For every one correction, try to mention several good things you appreciate. When you must correct, name the action, not attack the person. Notice how the atmosphere at home changes when the tongue praises more than it finds fault. See everyday adab.
