My ex-husband asks for receipts for every sen of child maintenance he pays. Is that reasonable?
He is entitled to know the maintenance is used for the child, but asking for a receipt for every sen can be a burden and a sign of mistrust. Find a middle way. For example, prepare a monthly summary of the main expenses such as fees, milk, clothing and medical care, and keep receipts for large expenses. Small daily expenses are genuinely hard to record one by one. Offer a proposal in writing: ‘I will share a summary every month and receipts for anything above a certain amount.’ If this keeps causing conflict, a sulh officer at the Syariah Court can help set a fair arrangement. Maintenance (nafkah) is the child's right, not a tool to control the mother. Read also child maintenance.
